What’s in season?

As summer picks up again, it’s a fabulous time to enjoy the best of seasonal fruits and veggies! Produce in season doesn’t have to be shipped long distances, so buying in season is a sure way to access fresh food that saves you money.

Here’s a few of our favourite fruits and vegetables to look out for right now.

Nectarines Jan – Mar

These incredibly sweet and juicy fruits are perfect on their own, but ice cream or yoghurt can be a wonderful addition.

Figs Feb – Mar

This unique, aromatic fruit is great with cheese or cinnamon and honey. Figs can also be cooked to go with meat, bread or cakes.

Watermelon Dec – Feb

A classic summer fruit. To cut wedges quickly, cut the entire watermelon into slices, removing the top and bottom pieces, then quartering the entire stack.

Summer Squash Dec – Feb

This bright yellow vegetable can be shaved over salads, sautéed or roasted. Try to choose smaller squash when buying, as summer squash can get tough and bland if it grows too old.

Eggplant Dec – Mar

Eggplant’s mild flavour can complement many different ingredients. It can be stuffed with meat or other vegetables. Steam in strips with chilli and garlic for an amazing dish that melts in your mouth.

Radish Dec – Feb

One of the healthiest vegetables, the distinct flavour of raw radishes can add a peppery finish to salads or sandwiches. They can also be roasted, boiled, or pickled.
